EDITOR IN CHEIF
SCU Lismore Student Magazine
12 Month Contract, appointed each year depending on funding approval.

Are you interested in Journalism? Want the opportunity to be an Editor in Chief of an independent magazine? Want to get paid to do so while getting amazing experience?
LEXSA is seeking a current SCU Student to be the Editor In Chief to launch and run a student magazine representing the views, options and creative works of SCU Lismore and external Students. The Editor in Chief will be responsible for all facets of Student Magazine production and editorial content, compliance, design and style guide, sourcing of volunteer contributors and meeting or print deadlines. You will be responsible for setting the direction of each issues, setting a style guide to create the ‘brand’ for the magazine and the distribution of each issue.
In this role you will be supported by LEXSA staff and student committee and have a small budget to manage.

Typical responsibilities of the job include:

  • Selecting articles for issues and planning publication content
  • Generating ideas for articles and features
  • Organising meetings with volunteer writers and designers to discuss and plan the features section of the magazine
  • Sourcing features and stories from in-house writers or volunteers
  • Supervising staff, including volunteers writers, contributors, and setting deadlines
  • Reading, writing and researching features and articles
  • Rewriting, editing, proofreading and subbing copy to ensure it is ready to go to press
  • Distributing the magazine in person to students around campus

Ensuring that all feature articles comply with LEXSA ethical codes of practice and legal guidelines

SUB EDITOR
SCU Lismore Student Magazine

Are you interested in Journalism? Want the opportunity to be a Sub Editor of an independent magazine? Want to get paid, while getting amazing experience? LEXSA is seeking a current SCU student for the position of Sub Editor of the Lismore Student Magazine. As the Sub Editor, you are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the magazine, including supervising of volunteers, photography, editorial, copy editing and design volunteers. 
You will work under the direction of the Editor In Chief and LEXSA staff to help produce and distribute the magazine.

Typical responsibilities of the job include:

  • Writing, rewriting, editing and proofreading text
  • Making sure that ‘house style’ is adhered to
  • Writing headlines, picture captions and story summaries
  • Editing reports and press releases
  • Liaising with volunteer journalists, reporters and editors
  • Verifying information and story details
  • Gathering and preparing routine information including sports results
  • Designing page layouts
  • Ensuring that stories are the right length and correctly placed on pages
  • Sizing photographs and placing them within features
  • Making sure that stories are accurate and do not compromise legality or LEXSA print regulations.

SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER
SCU Lismore Student Magazine
12 Month Contract, appointed each year depending on funding approval.
(November 2016 – November 2017)

The Social Media Manager will administer SCUSM's social media marketing and advertising. Administration includes but is not limited to:

  • Deliberate planning and goal setting
  • Development of brand awareness and online reputation
  • Content management
  • Generation of inbound traffic

The Social Media Manager is a highly motivated, creative individual with experience and a passion for connecting with current readers. That passion comes through as he/she engages with readers on a daily basis, with the ultimate goal of engaging SCU students with the magazine.

The Social Media Manager is instrumental in driving traffic to the SCUSM's website and generating interest in the online editions.

Content management duties include:

  • Administrate the creation and publishing of relevant, original, high-quality content.
  • Create a regular publishing schedule.
  • Implement a content editorial calendar to manage content and plan specific, timely marketing campaigns.
  • Promote content through social advertising.
