Two weeks ago on a Thursday night, April 3rd, the Campus Grind CafĆ© and Bar traded textbooks for paintbrushes and transformed its cozy space into a vibrant, airy art studio. The occasion? Paint on the DeckĀ ā a student event that brought together creativity, good food, music and good vibes.
Students arrived to find their spots perfectly prepped with table-top easels, blank canvasses, and full painting kits ready to go. Whether it was their first time holding a brush or they were seasoned artists, everyone was encouraged to dive in and let their creativity flow. A variety of painting images were available for them to choose from ranging from cows in flowered hats to sunflowers, banksias and poppies. Or they could create their own design.
The artists were entertained by the dulcet tones of Damien Cooper during the course of the evening who regaled them with covers of popular tunes as well as some of his original creations.
As the paint palettes got messier and the canvasses started coming to life, the smell of dinner filled the air. Each participant was treated to a hearty serving of lasagne ā warm, cheesy, and undeniably comforting. And just when it couldnāt get better, out came the rich, chocolate fudge dessert. Because whatās art without a little indulgence?
To top it all off, everyone received a $5 drink voucher ā perfect for sipping on something refreshing like a ginger beer while dabbing the final touches on their masterpieces.
The atmosphere was chilled, the lights were soft, and the laughter was loud. Friends painted side by side, strangers became seatmates and shared colours and conversations, and the deck echoed with that unmistakable Thursday night energy ā relaxed, joyful, and just the right kind of messy.
Big thanks to Campus Grind for hosting such a memorable night, and to everyone who showed up ready to paint, eat, and unwind. If you missed this one, donāt worry ā you can get creative every Wednesday on campus at our Wellness Workshops during Term (Weeks 1-6). Stay tuned for Term 2's events
